"40,000 housing units will be developed in Maldives in 5 years"

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the ambitious plan of setting up 40,000 housing units in the Maldives over the next five years, including a high-quality housing project in Nolhivaranfaru, Haa Dhaalu Atoll. He made this announcement during his address to the residents of Nolhivaranfaru.

The President emphasised the importance of Nolhivaranfaru formulating a medium-term and long-term plan to consolidate the population. He assured that the harbour expansion project would be tailored to the residents' preferences.

In addressing the need to strengthen the healthcare system, President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the requirement for essential specialised doctors and the availability of high-quality laboratory services to establish a health centre on the island. Additionally, he announced plans for the construction of a new school, complete with a multipurpose hall.

Reiterating his commitment to implementing all pledged plans while managing the economic situation and budget, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu affirmed that Nolhivaranfaru is designated as an island suitable for relocation under the resettlement policy. He emphasized that development projects on the island would be carried out with this purpose in mind.

During his visit to Haa Alifu Atoll, the President outlined plans to ensure the benefits of initiatives reach the widest possible population sustainably. He highlighted the suitability of Nolhivaranfaru for long-term consolidation efforts, citing its land and conducive conditions for large-scale projects. The focus is on establishing essential infrastructure and economic avenues to support livelihoods on the island.

Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu pledged housing initiatives and government support for individuals intending to relocate to Nolhivaranfaru, addressing the growing population of the island. Plans were disclosed for allocating a designated tourism zone spanning 14 hectares through council-led projects.

The President also assured special attention to resolving challenges at the Nolhivaranfaru harbour. He committed to initiatives such as road construction, enhancing healthcare services, alleviating educational space constraints, establishing a bank branch, and improving sports facilities on the island. This comprehensive approach reflects the government's commitment to the sustainable development and well-being of Nolhivaranfaru.
