President plans to expand Makunudhoo Airport runway

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to expand the runway at Makundhoo Airport in response to requests from the council and residents. He made the announcement while speaking at a gathering with the residents of Makunudhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

Speaking at the gathering, President Dr. Muizzu emphasised the isolation of the island and pledged government support to enhance quality of life there. He noted that the airport project in Makunudhoo did not meet the community's modernisation aspirations, upon assuming office. As a result, he pledged to extend the runway from 1,500 to 1,800 meters to better serve the island.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu outlined plans to reclaim land on Makundhoo for airport expansion, including designated areas for residential housing. He also committed to improving healthcare services and constructing island roads, addressing various concerns raised by the council and citizens alike.
