President meets Haa Dhaalu Atoll Council

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has held a meeting with the members of the Haa Dhaalu Atoll at the Secretariat of the Haa Dhaalu Atoll Council.

During the meeting, the Council members presented their vision for the Atoll by 2040 to the President. This vision included the development of tourism and the establishment of a regional port. The members sought the Administration's assistance in attracting investors for the Atoll's development. Concerns were also raised about not having a designated island to govern the Atoll. Additionally, the Council emphasised the need for a pilot program to advance the fishing industry in Haa Dhaalu Atoll and assured full support for the government.

In response, President Dr. Muizzu encouraged the Atoll Council to create a comprehensive development plan that would benefit all the islands in the Atoll. He shared the government's initiatives aimed at improving the overall economy of the Maldives. Furthermore, the President announced a supportive measure by stating that from the next month, mosques would be charged electricity bills at domestic rates to assist the Council's budgetary constraints.

The attending Ministers provided updates on the latest Government efforts to address the issues raised during the meeting, highlighting a collaborative approach to drive the sustainable development of Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
