President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans for the economic development of Nellaidhoo, highlighting the inclusion of Hirinaidhoo under its jurisdiction. He made the announcement while speaking at a gathering with the residents of Nellaidhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
Speaking at the gathering, President Dr. Muizzu emphasised the government's commitment to creating modern online platforms for marketing and selling products, particularly from the fisheries sector, aiming to bolster income opportunities within the island communities.
Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu acknowledged requests from the local council and citizens and affirmed the decision to transfer governance of Hirinaidhoo to the Nellaidhoo Island Council, urging administrative action and project proposals to actualise the transition. He also underscored the potential for tourism growth stemming from the development.
Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu outlined a series of infrastructure initiatives aimed at addressing housing shortages, including the implementation of a housing project. He detailed plans for the construction of a dedicated dinghy area within the harbour, the establishment of a football ground, and the construction of a new mosque on the island.
