President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to expedite the completion of the project linking Komandoo and Mathikomandoo in Shaviyani Atoll this year, alongside the development of an airport in Dhigu Velidhoo. He made the commitment while speaking at a gathering with the residents of Komandoo, Shaviyani Atoll.
Speaking at the gathering, President Dr. Muizzu assured that the projects designated for Komandoo would align with the community's aspirations. He acknowledged the concerns regarding the progress of connecting Mathikomandoo and Komandoo, highlighting shortcomings in the current bridge design. Pledging adjustments based on community feedback, he reiterated his determination to achieve connectivity between the two islands within the year.
Highlighting the pressing issue of land constraints in Komandoo, President Dr. Muizzu underscored its hindrance to housing and economic growth. As such, he announced the launch of a housing initiative as his secondary priority for the island.
Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu affirmed his government's dedication to advancing the airport development project in the uninhabited island Dhigu Velidhoo as initially pledged. He also outlined plans to enhance healthcare services, establish an ice plant to support local fishermen, shore protection initiatives, educational infrastructure development, and sports facilities in Komandoo.
