President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans for the expansion and further development of the airport in Fundhoo. He made the remarks while speaking at a gathering with the residents of Funadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll.
Speaking at the gathering, President Dr. Muizzu acknowledged the significant developmental tasks ahead for Fundhoo. He reassured the community that the government is fully committed to completing all necessary projects for the island's development. Specifically, he pledged to address the requests for further development of the airport, including expanding its capacity and enlarging the runway. With the current runway measuring 1,200 meters, he identified the airport project as a priority.
Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu outlined plans to prioritise the enhancement of the hospital in Fundhoo. Recognising its pivotal role in serving residents from nine islands who have relocated to Funadhoo, as well as neighboring communities, he pledged to increase space, services, and staff to meet growing healthcare needs. He also highlighted shore protection, road modernisation, school expansion, and the establishment as integral components of the island's development agenda.
Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu underscored the potential of Funadhoo for sustainable growth and consolidation efforts. Committing to a strategy of sustainable development, he announced housing initiatives alongside initiatives to promote tourism and eco-tourism, including the exploration of uninhabited islands in the region.
