Maldives calls for end to inhuman aggression against Palestine

The Maldives has once again called for an immediate end to the inhuman aggression against Palestine. The statement was delivered by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheryna Abdul Samad at the High-level Segment of the 55th Session of the Human Rights Council.

In the statement, State Minister Sheryna highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to support the promotion and protection of human rights. She further emphasised the importance given by the current administration to social issues such as gender equality, adequate housing, and disability inclusion.

Additionally, State Minister Sheryna also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Furthermore, State Minister Sheryna reiterated the standing invitation to all special procedures mandate holders to visit the Maldives and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to meet all its international human rights obligations and ensuring the realisation of human rights for all people.

The 55th Session of the Human Rights Council Session is being held from February 26 to 5 April 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland. The Maldives is a member of the Human Rights Council for the 2023–2025 term and actively engages in the Council.
