As pledged, Air Ambulance service to begin on March 1

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared the launch of air ambulance services on March 1 during his visit to the north. Speaking at a meeting with the people of Manadhoo, Noonu Atoll, the President highlighted the significance of this step in fortifying the emergency treatment system in the Maldives.

The President outlined that initially, a Dash-8 aircraft would be employed for the air ambulance service, later to be transformed into a seaplane design. This adaptation would facilitate the transportation of patients, even in islands lacking airports.

The air ambulance service would extend its reach to international destinations, enabling it to refuel and travel further afield. President Muizzu expressed the autonomy achieved by establishing an in-house service on a national aircraft, eliminating dependence on external entities. This move is pivotal in augmenting the medical evacuation capacity.

Discussing his commitment to atoll visits, the President revealed his decision to visit each island twice within his term. Ensuring comprehensive coverage, he asserted plans to visit every island in the Maldives at least once this year and reiterated the same for 2026.

Regarding pertinent issues, the President acknowledged existing gaps in laws and announced upcoming initiatives, including the implementation of RTL ferry service in the North Atoll, construction of 300 housing units in Manadhoo, and the modernisation of Noonu Atoll Hospital. Moreover, plans encompass road construction, sewerage facilities, and the establishment of sports facilities in the region.
