Gov't seeks foreign consultant for Rasmale project

Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed has announced the government is seeking a foreign consultant to oversee the Rasmale project.

The Rasmale project, a key commitment of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, aims to comprehensively address housing challenges in the Maldives. The government has diligently facilitated the provision of essential services since the project's inception.

Discussing the project's progress, Minister Dr. Ali Haidar highlighted its monumental scale and ongoing planning efforts. Emphasising the environmentally friendly approach to Rasmale's development, he mentioned the necessity of engaging an international consultant for the task. Dr. Haidar explained the complexities involved in creating an eco-city, requiring thorough analysis and infrastructure setup to ensure environmental sustainability.

The reclamation of Fushidhiggaru falhu commenced on December 18, 2023, constituting the largest land reclamation project ever undertaken in the Maldives, covering 1,153 hectares. During President Dr. Muizzu's visit to China, arrangements were made for water, sewerage, and electricity services in Rasmale.

Furthermore, the government has committed to constructing 65,000 houses in Rasmale, with a signed agreement with China for the development of 30,000 housing units.
