Minister says teaching Maldivian culture, history and geography is vital

Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage Adam Naseer has highlighted the importance of preserving the nation's history, culture, and geography for future generations to come. He made the remarks during a book launch ceremony held to publicise a book authored by Ibrahim Anees.

Minister Adam Naseer commended Anees's book as a significant national contribution, recognising its value in documenting the culture and history of the Maldives. Drawing attention to the practices of many developed countries that prioritise teaching their origins, history, and culture extensively, he noted that the Maldives has lagged behind in this regard. Minister Adam Naseer stressed the need to prioritise the teaching of the country's history, culture, and geography.

Asserting that a literate society is essential for producing more history-related books, the minister highlighted the correlation between an increased readership and the growth in the number of published books. He emphasised the necessity of fostering a love for reading among students, acknowledging that the value of history had been overlooked in the past.

Acknowledging the assistance of Adnan Haleem in the book's creation, author Ibrahim Anees shared that the book offers comprehensive information about Huvadhoo Atoll, providing insights into historical events and the atoll's situation during the governance of Addu City. The book is set to be available for purchase starting next week from M7.
