The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has amended its rules and regulations to provide retirement benefits to members who have served at least two terms. This modification, the ninth brought to the rules and regulations of ECM, also includes revisions related to salaries and overtime benefits.
The amended regulations allow members to retire after reaching the age of 55 and receive retirement benefits upon request. This provision also applies to employees who have served ECM for at least 15 years. The rules stipulate that a member retiring after ten years of service will also receive a retirement allowance.
The updated rules further ensure that retiring members receive 75% of their salary for life after the term ends, based on their last rank. If a member has served ECM for 30 years, the entire salary will be provided as retirement pay.
The amendment, effective since last month, is notable as ECM's Vice President Ismail Habeeb is set to retire today after completing two terms, each lasting five years.
