Yazeed and Zareer nominated for the tax commissioner position

Former Commissioner General of Taxation Yazeed Mohamed and Former Deputy Commissioner General Hassan Zareer have been nominated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for the position of tax commissioner. This nomination comes as the position became vacant due to the resignation of Fathuhulla Jameel, who pursued a parliamentary seat.

In his letter addressed to the parliament, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu identified Yazeed and Zareer as the two eligible candidates for the tax commissioner position. The parliament has dispatched an Economic Committee to conduct a thorough analysis of the two potential candidates recommended by President Dr. Muizzu.

Both Yazeed and Zareer were dismissed from their respective positions in 2019 due to amendments made to the administrative taxation act. The amendments mandate the re-appointment of both the Commissioner General of Taxation and the Deputy Commissioner General within 30 days of the policy's implementation. The policy also requires the establishment of the MIRA board within the same timeframe.
