In accordance with the National Advisory Committee, Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has underscored the necessity of providing equal opportunities to all candidates participating in the parliamentary elections.

During a meeting convened by the National Advisory Committee on Elections, Vice President Ismail Habeeb emphasised the importance of ensuring fairness and equality for all candidates involved in the electoral process. He assured that the ECM and relevant authorities are committed to safeguarding these principles.

Deputy Commissioner Habeeb highlighted the challenges faced by independent candidates in obtaining permissions from local councils for activities such as poster placement, noting the consistent complaints lodged in this regard. He urged all relevant bodies to thoroughly address these issues and ensure a level playing field for all candidates.

Additionally, Deputy Commissioner Habeeb stressed the significance of voting and called upon administrative bodies to encourage voter participation. Providing insights into election preparations, Habeeb mentioned the extension of the re-registration period and the provision of designated ballot boxes in resorts and overseas locations with a significant number of eligible voters.

He further outlined the progress of training programs for election officials, indicating that a substantial number of officials have already undergone training. Training sessions will continue, with special arrangements during Ramadan to accommodate participants' schedules.

In conclusion, with the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled across 93 constituencies, the EC is diligently working to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.
