The Addu City Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing tourism facilities by opening the Eedhigali Tourism Zone in Hithadhoo, spanning an area of 21,007.39 square meters, for both local and international investment.
The council announced that the Eedhigali Tourism Zone will be available for leasing over a period of 50 years, with the opportunity to develop tourism-related facilities, particularly city hotels. To facilitate this initiative, the City Council has initiated a bidding process, which will remain open until March 21st. Bids submitted will be reviewed and accepted by the Addu City Council on April 21st at 10:00 hrs.
In parallel, the Ministry of Tourism officially launched the "Addu Asseyri Tourism Development Plan" last month, developed with the assistance of CDC consulting. This plan outlines strategies for enhancing tourism facilities in Addu City, aiming to create 600 beds and potentially generate 10,000 job opportunities.
Moreover, the plan emphasizes the expansion of economic activities alongside tourism development, contributing to overall economic growth in the region.
As part of the proposed plan, a cultural village and wellness center will be established in Addu City, with preserved zones optimized for tourism purposes. Additionally, the plan includes the establishment of a hospitality school and the resumption of services offered by Shangri-La’s Villingili resort.
Overall, these initiatives underscore the commitment of the Addu City Council and the Ministry of Tourism to promote tourism development and economic growth in Addu City, offering opportunities for investment and job creation while enhancing the visitor experience.
