MPS tows 88 vehicles within two days

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has towed illegal parked vehicles in Male' by towing 88 vehicles within just two days. This initiative comes in response to the significant traffic congestion experienced in Male' and Hulhumale' due to illegally parked vehicles.

Highlighting their efforts, the police revealed that 40 vehicles were towed from Ameenee Magu alone on March 14. They have intensified monitoring of illegal parking, particularly in areas such as the green zone, public transport roads, road corners, street corners, and school zones. The police emphasized that legal action will be taken against vehicles parked near office buildings, hospitals, mosques, facilities for individuals with special needs, and in front of public houses and garages, which obstruct access.

Earlier, the MPS had temporarily suspended parking stickers in Male’ City in January until additional parking zones could be established. Despite this, complaints persisted regarding traffic congestion and road usage difficulties due to vehicles parked on both sides of the roads.
