Male' City Council (MCC) has requested citizens to submit photo and video evidence of littering activities taking place on the city's roads, as littering incidents surge in Male' City during the Holy month of Ramadan.
With the aim of streamlining the evidence-gathering process, MCC has established a dedicated hotline for the submission of such evidence. Citizens can share photo and video evidence of littering incidents via Viber or WhatsApp to the number 9341144. Additionally, it can be submitted through the council's official website.
Despite persistent efforts by MCC to address the issue of littering in Male' City, the problem persists, prompting the council to seek collaboration from the public in identifying and penalising offenders.
The heightened focus on combating littering during Ramadan stems from historical trends, with the Holy month typically witnessing an increase in such incidents. In response, corrective measures have been enforced, resulting in over 100 people fined this month alone.
Expressing similar concerns, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has underscored the seriousness of the elevated littering problem in Male' City. The agency has emphasised the importance of collective efforts in preserving the city's environment and maintaining cleanliness standards.
