MDP parliamentary disruption can be countered by winning polls

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has underscored the importance of securing victory in the upcoming parliamentary election to counter the hindrances posed by the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Parliament. His remarks came during a campaign gathering organized by the Progressive Congress Coalition, where he urged citizens to consider the implications of MDP's past majority in Parliament.

Addressing the gathering, Vice President highlighted MDP's previous dominance in Parliament and the expectations that accompanied it. He lamented that despite holding parliamentary power, MDP failed to deliver on its promises of fostering development and advancing democratic progress. Instead, he accused MDP of using its authority to seize control of state institutions, stifling opposition voices, and exhibiting dictatorial behavior.

In addition, Vice President criticised MDP's handling of housing issues, pointing out their failure to address these concerns despite having the necessary authority to adjust the budget. He asserted that MDP's current pledge to hold the government accountable while in opposition lacks credibility, given their track record.

Expressing confidence in the ability of the PPM/PNC government to drive development with a parliamentary majority, Vice President emphasised the importance of electing young individuals who are educated, courageous, and competent. He stressed the need for effective collaboration within parliamentary committees to fulfill the true purpose of the legislature and deliver tangible benefits to the people.
