Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam has criticised the opposition's political agenda, warning that it could negatively impact citizens. His remarks were delivered during a campaign event organised by the Progressive Congress Coalition, highlighting the importance of securing a majority in the 20th Parliament to realize President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's manifesto.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Shiyam criticised the opposition for their past behavior while holding a majority in Parliament, citing examples such as the prolonged delay in cabinet approvals, which lasted for four months. He emphasized how such actions hindered the government's ability to deliver on its commitments and fulfill the President's pledges.
Furthermore, Minister Shiyam highlighted the omission of certain projects from the 2024 budget by the opposition, which were crucial for implementing President Dr. Muizzu's agenda. He expressed concern that the opposition's political motives were jeopardizing the well-being of citizens by obstructing essential development initiatives for political gain.
The Progressive Congress Coalition, currently engaged in campaign activities for the upcoming parliamentary elections, has put forward 89 candidates from the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) for the 20th Parliament contest.
