Former President says will ensure gov't accountability

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced the determination of members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to secure victory in the upcoming parliamentary election and ensure government accountability.

Addressing a campaign gathering in the Greater Male' Region, Solih criticised the government for its alleged attempts to conceal information and emphasised MDP's commitment to holding the government accountable by striving to attain a parliamentary majority. He also criticised the government's policies, citing the halting of numerous projects as evidence, claiming that over 1,700 projects had been brought to a standstill.

However, the current administration attributes project delays to the previous government's failure to settle contractor payments. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu clarified that contractors have now been hired, amounting to USD 584 million, and project resumption is underway.

The government has stated that the overwhelming presence of MDP in the current Parliament impedes governmental operations and project execution.
