President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced ambitious plans to introduce 6000 beds as part of the Addu Asseyri Tourism Development Plan, aiming to revitalise the tourism sector in Addu City.
This comprehensive initiative, formulated as part of the government's 100-day plan, outlines the objectives for tourism development in Addu City over the next five years. President Muizzu emphasised that efforts to develop Addu Bridge and commence the Gan International Airport (GIA) project are underway. Additionally, he highlighted the government's commitment to launching seaplane hubs in the region.
During a campaign event for a ruling coalition candidate contesting the Addu-Hulhudhoo constituency, President Muizzu reiterated his dedication to fulfilling promises made to Addu City residents, assuring that the GIA project would commence this year.
The Addu Asseyri Tourism Development Plan aims to create an estimated 10,000 job opportunities by introducing 6000 beds in the region. Specific initiatives outlined in the plan include establishing a cultural village, creating a wellness zone, and designating protected areas in Addu City. Furthermore, the plan proposes establishing a hospitality school to focus on skill development and education in the tourism sector.
A significant milestone included in the plan is the reopening of the Shangri-La Villingili Resort, signifying a key aspect of the region's tourism revitalisation efforts.
