Gov't decides to cut fee for WAMCO waste disposal to USD32 per tonne

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared that the government will slash the fee per tonne of waste deposited at Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) waste transfer stations in the Greater Male' Region to USD32.

Previously, WAMCO had reduced the service fee from USD69 to USD49 at waste transfer stations in Male' City, Hulhumale', and Villimale' starting from March of this year.

Speaking at a campaign event in Hulhumale', President Dr. Muizzu announced that the government would further alleviate the financial burden by reducing the service charges provided by WAMCO. He acknowledged that while rates for businesses and similar entities had been reduced since the previous month, they remained unaffordable for the general public. As such, he revealed that the government would lower the charge from USD49 per tonne to USD32, after consultations with the Managing Director of WAMCO and relevant ministers.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu said that WAMCO wo;; soon announce the implementation date for the revised pricing structure. He emphasised that the adjustment would alleviate the public's hardships and reiterated his administration's commitment to addressing the concerns of the citizens.

Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the operations of WAMCO and other State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). He emphasised his administration's achievements, including prudent financial management, maintaining currency value, reducing the dollar exchange rate, and providing relief measures to the public since assuming office.
