President assures foreign troops will withdraw from Maldives by May 10

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has affirmed that all foreign troops stationed in Maldives will be withdrawn by May 10. He made this statement during a meeting with the public in the Hiyaa flat area.

President Muizzu reiterated his commitment to preserving Maldives' independence, emphasising that his government is dedicated to fulfilling this promise. He assured that the withdrawal of foreign troops from Maldives is being pursued in accordance with diplomatic norms and principles.

The President elaborated that, in line with agreements reached between parties, the withdrawal process is already underway. He informed that the troops stationed on the second platform will be withdrawn within the current month, while those on the third platform will be withdrawn by May 10.

Highlighting the presence of Indian troops on three platforms in Maldives, President Muizzu assured that the withdrawal of foreign troops is progressing as per the agreed timeline.

He underscored the government's commitment to prioritising the interests and visions of the Maldivian people in Parliament, ensuring that external agendas do not take precedence.

President Muizzu emphasised that the objective behind strengthening defense and security relations with friendly nations is to safeguard the sovereignty and independence of the Maldivian people.
