Maldives Zakat Housing has announced the deadlines for the collection of Zakat-al-Fitr.
Several arrangements have been made to ease the process of making payments of Zakat-al-Fitr. While online platforms are introduced to submit payments, arrangements have been organised to facilitate and provide services in the Islamic Ministry's Hall as well.
The deadlines for the collection of Zakat-al-Fitr are as follows:
- - For platforms other than Bandeyri Pay, the deadline is April 6; 2359hrs
- - For Bandeyri Pay, the deadline is the last day of Ramadan at 1800hrs
- - For counters established in the halls of the Islamic Ministry, the deadline is the last day of Ramadan 1400hrs
- - For individuals paying zakat in terms of food staples, the deadline is the last day of Ramadan 1800hrs.
Zakat al-Fitr, obligatory for all Muslims, is intended for those in need of financial assistance after the Holy month of Ramadan. It is mandated in the second year of Hijra and applies to all members of the Muslim community, regardless of age or status. However, certain conditions must be met, including having enough funds to provide for dependents with food and basic essentials on the day and night of Eid. Maldives Zakat Housing was established with the primary purpose of raising public awareness of zakat payments and for the collection of zakat.
