Maldives condemns Israeli attack targeting social workers

The Maldives has strongly condemned the deadly Israeli air strike which targeted and claimed the lives of seven aid workers. The volunteer aid workers were proactive members from the World Central Kitchen, assisting the preparation and distribution of meals to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the Maldives strongly denounced that such attacks targeting the volunteer social workers are unacceptable and are in explicit contravention of international humanitarian law. The statement stressed the importance of ensuring the security and safety of aid workers while noting the obstructions and indiscriminate attacks which prevent the flow of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Maldives also extended condolences to the families of the victims of the attack and also to the World Central Kitchen.

Despite the order of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) calling for the implementation of a temporary ceasefire, the Israeli military's aggression has continued and has further intensified the attacks on various locations within the Gaza Strip. Since October 7, the ongoing attacks have claimed the lives of 32,975 innocent civilians.
