The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has recommenced the land reclamation project in Hulhumale' Phase III, with work distributed across various phases.
Initiated on December 30, 2023, the second phase of the project has seen the completion of five out of the 29 hectares of land to be reclaimed. This follows the first phase, which involved the dredging of ten hectares of land. The project aims to reclaim an additional 24 hectares of land in the third phase, bringing the total reclaimed area to 63 hectares.
Addressing the media, HDC's Managing Director Fazul Rasheed revealed that the project had previously halted due to the depletion of vital resources like sand. However, with the acquisition of necessary resources, work has resumed, and all required payments for the project have been completed. Fazul expressed confidence in overcoming any obstacles to ensure the project's completion.
HDC plans to utilise the reclaimed land for various purposes, including industrial and marina use, while also addressing the housing problem. Land plots will be allocated to residents of Male' City, with a total of 1,351 plots designated for distribution from Hulhumale' Phase III. Similar to Phase II, Phase III will feature parks, sports and recreational centers, as well as bridges and roads, to cater to the needs of residents.
