Gov't identifies child assault suspects, serious probe ongoing

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has affirmed that the individuals involved in the assault on a child have been identified and are under serious investigation.

The ministry reported the circulation of a video depicting the abuse and torture of a child within a mosque, spreading through social media channels. The Maldives Police Service (MPS) was alerted to the video, which depicted the child enduring assault by two other children, occurring in Rasdhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll. The MPS is treating the incident with utmost seriousness.

In a post on social media, Minister Ihusaan said that the MPS have identified a 14-year-old and a 13-year-old as the accused assailants. He also pledged to ensure the strictest measures are taken against individuals perpetrating such acts in society.

MPS has underscored their commitment to the case, urging against the dissemination of the video on social media to safeguard the child's identity. The release of the video depicting the abuse in Rasdhoo has sparked widespread concern, prompting calls for authorities to swiftly arrest the suspects and administer appropriate measures.
