President aims to attain public confidence and trust in police

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed his vision of restoring public confidence and earn the trust of residents in the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

Addressing the media regarding the case where Special Operations police officers took action to prevent the event held by People's National Front (PNF), President Dr. Muizzu stated that police officers should not be seen as those arresting and afflicting the public. On this stance, the president unveiled his overarching goal of eliminating the alleges made against MPS while ensuring it and the government to attain public trust and confidence.

President Dr. Muizzu affirmed his aims of eliminating the arrest of people and alleged torture by the SO officers, as seen in the past. The president assured that necessary action will be taken regarding the case, stressing his target of establishing a peaceful society with strong social cohesion and bonds.

Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu unveiled his commitment to ensure no individual will be arrested or harassed for political purposes, proclaiming that he instructed the same during previous meetings held with the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology and the MPS. The president assured that no such incident will occur within the ruling period by the government, while affirming that legal action will be taken against otherwise. He further reiterated his goal to ensure that police services provided are professional and accountable.
