Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been entrusted with the airport development project of Bileffahi, Shaviyani Atoll. MTCC was also given the project of surveying and designing a design for the airport development project in Milandhoo. Agreements pertaining to the practical works and the survey and design were signed by the Minister of State for Construction and Infrastructure Ibrahim Nazeem and MTCC's Deputy Managing Director Hassan Mughnee.
MTCC is entrusted with USD 20 million to enhance Bileffahi Airport and to protect the coastal region surrounding the airport. The project was handed over to MTCC such that it is completed within a year.
Additionally, MTCC has been tasked with the responsibility of compiling a report that will encompass the outcomes of the survey, the design, and the adverse environmental impact resulting from the development of Milandhoo Airport. With a total of USD 38,000, this part of the project is to be completed within a period of four months.
Within four months since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office, the development of five new airports in various islands have already commenced. The government has also revealed their overarching target of establishing a total of 15 new airports in the nation.
