Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has officially launched the second phase of modernising the roads in Hoarafushi, Haa Alifu Atoll. The project was contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) at a cost of USD2 million.
Providing an insight on the project, Deputy Managing Director of MTCC Hassan Mughnee disclosed that the second phase of the project encompassed of laying asphalt on 3km of roads. Further, drainage systems will be installed along with street lights as well as relevant traffic signs as part of the project.
The first phase of the project was also completed by MTCC as per the schedule. The first phase comprised of laying asphalt in a total of 5.3km of various roads of the island. The initial phase of the project was worth USD 4.6 million.
Hoarafushi, with a population of 3,000 individuals, is the second-highest populated island in the atoll.
