Election Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has held a special informative session for international monitors and observers who will oversee the parliamentary election.
ECM revealed that a total of 45 monitors and observers will actively oversee the parliamentary election scheduled to take place on April 21. As such, monitors and observers from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Thailand, Russia, Azerbaijan, Philippines, Turkey, Bhutan, and Cambodia will visit the polling stations.
Meanwhile, former Chief Election Commissioner of India Dr. Shahabuddin Yaqoob Quraishi has been appointed as the Chief Observer of the team. He expressed expectations of a free and a fair election with as many individuals participating in the vote to elect parliamentarians.
ECM has said that more than 6,000 individuals will be actively involved as observers, monitors, and representatives in the parliamentary election. They include 2,495 observers, 4,614 monitors and 1,816 representatives.
