24,703 individuals vote within the first hour of election

Election Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has revealed that over 24,000 individuals cast votes within the first hour since voting in the parliamentary election commenced.

ECM disclosed that while a total of 24,703 people voted, 7,803 were men and 16,900 voters were women. The percentage of those voted contributes to 5.94% of those eligible for voting. Therefore, it can be inferred that a total of 259,960 individuals out of a total of 284,663 individuals have yet to vote.

With the ongoing parliamentary election to elect representatives for 93 constituencies, voting hours will continue until 1730hrs.

A total of 602 ballot boxes have been set up in the Maldives and three other countries for the parliamentary election. Additionally, polling stations are also open in 34 resorts, prisons, and other industrial islands.

ECM has urged residents to cast votes promptly, as the allocated time for voting will not be extended under any circumstances.
