The Maldives Customs Service has revealed a 4% increase in imports In March of this year.
The latest statistics released by the Customs show that goods totaling USD290 million were imported to the Maldives compared to USD272 million during the same period last year. Import and export earnings in March experienced a 3% decline compared to last year, with the government receiving USD21 million in March 2023, down from USD20 million in March this year. Oman, India, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), China, and Singapore were the primary contributors to imports.
Meanwhile, the Maldives exports in March amounted to USD8 million this year, a significant decrease from USD22 million recorded in March last year, marking a 64% decline. Thailand emerged as the top destination for Maldivian exports, accounting for 33% of total exports, followed by the United Kingdom (UK) 22%, Germany 10%, India 6%, and France 5%, according to Customs data.
