Chinese Language Day celebrated at Villa College

Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr. Maryam Mariya and Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim along with the Ambassador of China to the Maldives Wang Lixin have commemorated the Chinese Language Day at a special event hosted at Villa College.

Speaking at the event, Minister Dr. Mariya stressed the significance of prioritising the mother tongue language, despite learning another language. The minister emphasised the pivotal role language plays in the era of globalisation, while highlighting the importance of providing students the adequate resources required to learn and study languages. Additionally, she noted that the initiative undertaken by the students of Villa College to learn various languages illustrates their demand for high-quality education to excel.

Furthermore, Ambassador Wang Lixin highlighted the increasing interest among Maldivian students in learning the Chinese language, noting its potential benefits, particularly for those who visit the country frequently.

During the event, several performances were presented by the students of Villa International High School and the students of Iskandhar School. Furthermore, the learning outcomes of the Chinese Language Learning Centre established at the college along with traditional equipment were showcased in the event. In addition to teaching the Chinese language, the Chinese Language Learning Centre at Villa College also provides education on the history and traditions of China.
