Maldives and the UK discuss strengthening relations

The Maldives and the United Kingdom has held discussions aimed at strengthening their bilateral relations. The talks were held during a courtesy call by the Minister of State for Indo-Pacific at the Foreign, Commonwealth, & Development Office of the United Kingdom, the Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP, on the Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef. The meeting took place at the President's Office.

During the discussion, Vice President expressed gratitude to the Government of the United Kingdom for its continued support and assistance to the Maldives. He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to enhancing both multilateral and bilateral relations with the UK, emphasising the importance of providing Maldivian students with access to higher educational opportunities in the United Kingdom.

Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP acknowledged the existing strong bilateral relations between the two countries and expressed a desire to further strengthen them. She addressed critical issues such as clean energy challenges and policy development aimed at enhancing climate diplomacy. Additionally, they discussed the importance of enhancing aviation security in light of the Maldives' rapidly advancing tourism sector.

The courtesy call concluded on a positive note, with both the Vice President and the Minister expressing enthusiasm for future collaborations. They reiterated their commitment to addressing climate issues on the international platform and underscored the administration's endeavors in this regard.
