Maldives Immigration issues over 2,500 passports since last week

Maldives Immigration has announced that over 2,500 passports have been issued since May 5.

Speaking at the joint press conference held by the administrations under the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, Chief Principal Immigration Officer Fathimath Latheefa highlighted the increasing number of requests for passport issuance, observing that this surge coincides with the annual holiday period. She disclosed that while May 1 marked the commencement of school annual holidays, 2,581 passports have been issued within last week.

Maldives Immigration have affirmed that concerted efforts underway, aiming to streamline the passport application process, in response to the increase in aggregate demand. As such, the administration has exerted efforts to establish systems to issue passports in other islands and cities since December 2023.
