Minister confirms training facilities in new constructed hospitals

Minister of Health Dr. Abdulla Khaleel underscored that the new hospitals constructed by the administration will include training facilities.

Speaking at a special ceremony at Addu Equatorial Hospital commemorating International Nurses Day, the Minister stressed the importance of ongoing training for nurses beyond their university studies. He highlighted the need for nurses to continuously engage with research papers even after completing their studies.

Moreover, the Minister reiterated that the administration is highly committed to prioritising these key factors in the development of the new hospital, with plans to amend the design of Addu Equatorial Hospital to include dedicated training facilities for nursing students.

Furthermore, Minister Khaleel noted that nurses can receive training across various areas, highlighting the importance of expanding and enhancing provisions for the elderly. Efforts are presently underway to offer relevant courses in collaboration with the Maldives National University (MNU).

Currently, nursing courses are conducted by MNU, with additional programs available overseas. Internship opportunities are also provided at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and some private hospitals.

To address space constraints and meet the growing demand for nursing education, MNU has planned to construct a new building for the School of Nursing in Hulhumale’. The university is currently seeking contractors for the construction of the new facility.
