Former Deputy Commissioner of Taxation Hassan Zareer has been appointed as the Commissioner General of Taxation.
Zareer's appointment was approved by 45 members of Parliament following the submission of a report by the Parliament Economic Committee. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had nominated both former Tax Commissioner Yazeed Mohamed and Zareer, who served as Yazeed's deputy.
The Economic Committee conducted separate interviews with the two candidates and approved Zareer with 10 votes. The position of Commissioner General of Taxation became vacant after the resignation of Fathuhulla Jameel.
