Special ceremony marks the completion of Hulhumale' connecting bridge

The inauguration of the bridge connecting Hulhumale’ Phase One and Phase Two, funded by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), marks a significant milestone in the infrastructural development of Hulhumale’. This celebration heralds the completion and full operation of the bridge, symbolizing a new era of connectivity and progress for the region.

Held in Hulhumale’ Phase Two, the special ceremony was led by SFD CEO Sultan Abdul Rahman Al-Marshadh and attended by esteemed officials, including Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq and Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Fazul Rasheed.

The Saudi Fund granted USD 80 million to support the infrastructural initiatives in Hulhumale’ Phase Two. The comprehensive project includes the construction of four bridges connecting the two phases, channels under the bridge, and the development of several ports.

Speaking at the ceremony, CEO Sultan emphasised the strong bilateral relations between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, highlighting that USD 470 million had been disbursed through 16 loan agreements. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's unwavering commitment to supporting future projects in both infrastructure and other sectors.Minister Shafeeq expressed sincere gratitude to the CEO of the Saudi Fund for attending the ceremony and reiterated hopes for strengthening ties between the two countries.

Additionally, Managing Director Fazul stressed the transformative impact of the Saudi-funded projects on Hulhumale's economic and social advancement, noting the improved quality of life and convenience for residents.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1978, Saudi Arabia has been a steadfast partner in the Maldives' development, providing resources for both infrastructural and human development projects. This ongoing collaboration underscores the enduring friendship and commitment to mutual progress between the two nations.
