Maldives pay respects at President Raisi's funeral

Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has attended the official funeral ceremony of late President of Iran Dr. Ebrahim Raisi, late Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Dr. Hussain Amir Abdollahian, and their entourage, organised by the government of Iran as the Special Envoy of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The funeral proceedings of the unexpected passing of Iranian President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and Iran's Foreign Minister Abdollahian and other senior officials, were held in Tehran, Iran. The funeral prayer was headed by the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khameini.

The funeral of President Raisi was attended by high profile dignitaries from various countries and organisations. As such, the vice president of Turkey, Deputy Prime Minister of India, State Duma Speaker of Russia, Prime Minister of Iraq along with the Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and senior officials from Taliban in Afghanistan.

The tragic helicopter crash incident occurred as it headed for the north-western city of Tabriz following Raisi's participation in a collaborative project inauguration with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at Iran's border with Azerbaijan. In addition to the Iranian president and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdulhayyani, the East Azerbaijan Governor Malik Rahmati and Friday prayer leader of Tabriz, Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem were also on board the aircraft when the unfortunate incident took place.

Upon the demise of President Raisi, Khamenei appointed Mohamad Mokhber as the interim president of the country. Announcing a period of five days for national mourning, he recognised the world-wide sparks of condolences, participating in the nation's loss.

The late President Raisi was a prominent figure known for his influence in the realms of politics, religion, and law. He ascended to the presidency through the presidential elections in 2021, despite his previous unsuccess in the presidential elections of 2017.
