Associations vital to enhance development and societal ties of islands

Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts Ibrahim Waheed has underscored the pivotal role associations play to enhance the development and societal ties of islands. The remarks were made by the minister during the inaugural ceremony of a seminar designated for associations, which was held in Villingili, Gaafu Alif Atoll.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Waheed revealed that the primary objective of the seminar is to identify the challenges in running civil associations and organisations and to address such issues. The minister stated that such a seminar can only produce the anticipated results with the participation of associations operating in various parts across the nation. He additionally disclosed that the seminar was officiated under the recommendation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He stated that this initiative signifies the priority given by the president in empowering associations and organisations.

Highlighting the crucial importance of associations to achieve significant progress in development, social affairs and other fields, Minister Waheed reiterated the overarching goal of the ministry, to empower civil associations and organisations. As such, the minister disclosed that the opportunity to submit proposals for funding community empowerment efforts and activities are open for the associations. He stated that the information will be provided at the seminar.

Furthermore, Minister Waheed affirmed that the commencement of this seminar marks a historic milestone, revealing plans to conduct similar sessions in various regions across the country. In addition, he gave the confirmation that the ministry will continue to provide the necessary human resources required to empower the associations.

The seminar will be attended by civil associations and organisations, Island Councils, Women's Development Committee (WDC), Ministry of Social and Family Development, Maldives Police Service (MPS) and employees working in the atoll. While over 60 participants will attend the event, decisions have been made such that informative sessions on various topics will be discussed within the seminar. The seminar will be held from May 25-27.
