President hails Samoa's AOSIS leadership

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met with Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata'afa of Samoa during his visit to Antigua and Barbuda for the fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

In their meeting, President Muizzu highlighted the Maldives' ongoing efforts to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change, detailing the strategic preventative measures that have been implemented. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mata'afa shared the challenges faced by Samoa, emphasising the critical importance of collaboration and unity among SIDS.

The leaders also discussed the difficulties in securing funds for developmental projects, exploring ways to streamline this process. Additionally, President Muizzu acknowledged Samoa's work as the chair of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) and expressed his gratitude.

Maldives and Samoa have maintained political relations since August 2, 1993.
