CSO seminar successfully concludes

The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts has successfully concluded a seminar aimed at strengthening Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). The seminar, held from May 25-27 in Villingili, Gaafu Alif Atoll, focused on identifying and effectively addressing the challenges faced by these organizations.

Over 60 participants attended the event, which was officiated by Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts Ibrahim Waleed. The conclusion of the seminar was marked by a ceremony where plaques were presented to the participants.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Registrar of CSOs Ali Shakeel underscored that the seminar had successfully identified the challenges faced by CSOs and provided crucial information to address these issues within the legal framework. He further urged participants to utilise the information proactively to achieve substantial progress.

Moreover, the seminar was attended by representatives from Civil Organisations, Island Councils, Women's Development Committees (WDC), the Ministry of Social and Family Development, Maldives Police Service (MPS), and local employees.

During the seminar, the MPS initiated a Team Building and Leadership Program, and the Local Government Authority (LGA) collaborated with local councils to discuss further development of the islands. The Ministry of Social and Family Development had also conducted information sessions on the role of Civil Organisations in crime reduction in the atolls.

Additionally, the Asia Foundation carried out legal awareness sessions, highlighting opportunities for CSOs, while the Islamic University of Maldives facilitated programs on financing, program planning, and management.

Furthermore, the Maldives Red Crescent provided information sessions on the pivotal role of councils in empowering CSOs. Whilst the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts briefed participants on the Associations Act and grant provision rules, underscoring the importance of collaboration between CSOs and government institutions.

The participants remarkably expressed optimism about the seminar, signifying its success in addressing the needs and challenges of CSOs.
