President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has co-chaired the Interactive Dialogue, "Revitalising SIDS' Economies for Accelerated and Sustainable Growth," on the sidelines of the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) in Antigua and Barbuda. Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering of the Republic of Finland, Anders Adlercreutz, co-chaired the Dialogue with the president.
As co-chair, President Dr. Muizzu delivered both the opening and closing remarks during the dialogue, emphasising the critical need for sustainable economic growth and the unique challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The Interactive Dialogue featured notable participants, including Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and President of the Conference Gaston Browne and Secretary of the Interior, Department of the Interior of the United States of America Debra Anne Haaland. The dialogue was moderated by Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Achim Steiner.
In addition, the dialogue included presentations by prominent panellists. As such, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebeca Grynspan and Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) Gerd Müller, provided valuable insights into the economic revitalization of SIDS. Several Heads of State and Delegations attending the SIDS4 Summit also delivered interventions during the Dialogue.
The session marked the first of five Interactive Dialogues scheduled to take place at the SIDS4 Conference, which runs from May 27 - 30, in Antigua and Barbuda.
