Minister calls on officers to proactively ensure safety

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has urged newly recruited police officers to proactively contribute to the government's diligent efforts in reducing crime and creating a safe environment. He made these remarks while officiating the concluding ceremony of the 36th Police Initial Training Course.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Ihusaan emphasised that ensuring a secure and safe environment is a central policy of the current administration. He highlighted the administration's proactive efforts to address three major issues, eradicating drugs from the country, tackling gang crimes, and managing illegal immigration in the Maldives. He further urged the trainees to adhere to the guidance and information provided by experienced personnel, acknowledging that they might face challenges such as bribery and intimidation from both within and outside the country, but stressed the importance of remaining determined.

Additionally, Inspector General of Police of Sri Lanka Deshabandu Tennakoon attended the ceremony as a special guest.

In his address, Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau encouraged the newly trained officers to make the most of all academic opportunities available and to determine their field of service over the next five years.

Furthermore, Minister Ihusaan presented awards to the top performers of the training course, with Beefaanu Squad being selected as the best all-round squad and Sergeant Ahmed Nihad receiving the Commissioner's Excellence Award for being the best all-round officer. Out of approximately 190 participants, 164 students, including 128 males and 36 females, successfully completed the course.
