Tourist arrivals increases by 10% compared to last year

Maldives has witnessed a remarkable surge in tourism, with a total of 892,245 tourists welcomed so far this year, spearheaded by a significant influx from China. The latest daily report published by the Ministry of Tourism revealed that the increase in tourist arrivals were within the first five months of the year was 10% greater compared to the 809,244 tourist arrivals during the same period last year.

The breakdown of tourist arrivals by month is as follows:

In January - 192,385 tourist arrivals
In February - 217,392 tourist arrivals
In March - 194,227 tourist arrivals
In April - 168,366 tourist arrivals
In May - 119,875 tourist arrivals

Furthermore, the latest statistics publicised by the ministry indicates that China has become the top source market for tourist arrivals in the Maldives. The largest number of tourists visited the Maldives from China with 101,202 arrivals, while 90,336 tourists visited from Russia, 85,208 visited from the United Kingdom (UK), 75,123 visited from Italy, and 72,462 visited from Germany. The ministry revealed that a total of 1,193 tourist establishments are currently open in the Maldives, consisting of 62,254 beds.

On average, each tourist spends approximately seven days in the Maldives, with an average of 3,519 visitors arriving daily. This consistent influx has spurred the government to set an ambitious target of attracting 2 million tourists by year-end. The government has affirmed that 25% of its tourism target has been achieved during the first four months of this year.
