Gov't decides to hold nationwide march advocating for rights of Palestinians

The Maldives government has decided to hold a nationwide march, advocating for the rights of Palestinians. The decision was announced by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan during a press conference.

Addressing the media, Minister Ihusaan revealed that the decision to hold a nationwide march, expressing the solidarity of the Maldives with Palestine, was finalised during the Cabinet meeting held on June 2. The ministry additionally affirmed that efforts are underway to amend the laws to restrict entry for individuals holding Israeli passports.

Several gatherings and marches have been in the Maldives, protesting for the rights of Palestinians. Meanwhile, state media, Public Service Media (PSM) has decided to hold a telethon aiming to assist Palestine. This initiative will be implemented as per the recommendation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Decisions have been made such that the telethon will be held on June 12.

The Maldives has condemned the ongoing Israeli military aggression against innocent civilians in the Gaza Strip. Since October 7, 2023, these attacks have intensified and have claimed the lives of over 36,096 Palestinians, injuring over 81,136 individuals.
