Vibrant Eid celebrations held in three islands

Eid al-Adha has been enthusiastically celebrated in the Maldives with a wide range of engaging activities. Official Eid festivities were hosted b three islands across the nation, determined by the government: Ungoofaaru in Raa Atoll, Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu Atoll, and Vilingili in Gaafu Alif Atoll.

The significant occasion of Eid al-Adha is celebrated, following one of the most blessed days of the year; the day of Hajj. Unlike other years, this year, the government, local councils and private associations are organising and hosting various activities, celebrating Eid joyfully. Concurrently, numerous activities have been ongoing in all three designated islands since the night of June 15.

In Ungoofaru, several sport activities for various age groups have been organised by the council. The activities commenced on June 15, and will continue till June 19. These activities incorporate elements of Maldivian history, culture, and contemporary celebrations, including fireworks and stage performances.

Vilingili also saw vibrant Eid celebrations commencing on June 15, featuring a special breakfast, an Eid parade, various sports competitions such as a fishing race, family gatherings, and other engaging events scheduled to continue until June 18.

Similarly, residents of Kudahuvadhoo marked Eid fervently with a special Eid breakfast and various sports activities. Notably, the island hosted a parade in solidarity with Palestinians, underscoring the community's support.

While colourful Eid celebrations have been organised in these three islands as determined by the government, high-profile government dignitaries including ministers and senior officials have been visiting the islands as well.
