Himmafushi Remand Centre back in operation

The National Drug Agency (NDA) has announce the reopening of the Drug Offenders Remand Centre in Himmafushi, Kaafu Atoll. The centre, now provided security by the Maldives Police Service (MPS), was reopened with the support of the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology.

This initiative has enabled the NDA to take custody of seven drug users seeking recovery last week. NDA stated the reopening marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive support and rehabilitation for individuals battling drug addiction.

Currently, there are 10 centres across the Maldives dedicated to helping drug users recover. In a further commitment to this cause, the Cabinet has approved the establishment of three additional rehabilitation centres. These new centres will be located in Kaashidhoo, Kaafu Atoll, Velidhoo, Noonu Atoll, and one in Laamu Atoll.
