Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) has revealed that the national airline, Maldivian, conducted over 100 flights during the recent Eid al-Adha holidays.
The Eid festivities, which commenced on June 16, saw a significant increase of tourist arrivals to various parts of the Maldives. This year marked a departure from tradition, as the government celebrated Eid on a national scale across three regions which include, Ungoofaaru in Raa Atoll, Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu Atoll, and Villingili in Gaafu Alifu Atoll. As such, domestic flights experienced an increase in demand across many regions.
To meet the heightened demand, IASL disclosed that Maldivian increased its domestic flight operations. In light of this, the company announced that Maldivian conducted over 100 additional flights during the Eid holidays, complementing its regular schedule across the country. The additional flights were arranged to cater to specific demand patterns.
Maldivian customarily increases flight frequencies to areas experiencing heightened demand during holidays. The national airline operates scheduled flights to 16 destinations within the Maldives, maintaining a fleet of 25 aircraft, including an Airbus A320, four ATRs, nine Dash 8, and 11 Dash 6 Twin Otters.
