President decides that Maldives will partake in Samoa Agreement of OACPS

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided that the Maldives will participate in the Samoa Agreement of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), following the recommendation of the Cabinet.

The decision was made by the president during the a discussion held in a Cabinet meeting, to discuss a bill submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Samoa Agreement is and agreement which outlines the legal framework of the six key areas of the European Union (EU) - OACPS relationship for the upcoming 20 years. The six key areas include human rights and democracy, peace and security, development, economic growth, climate change and migration and mobility. The Maldives' participation in the agreement and its full membership in the OACPS will create opportunities in various fields offered by the EU. Consequently, this will enhance opportunities for the Maldives to export fish at more favorable prices.
